Are women made for gambling?

Why are there more male gambling fans than female ones? Is it because women have such weak minds that only an exceptional few can make it in the male-dominated world of gambling? Do women really have weaknesses that men do not have that are big disadvantages in gambling?

According to Gloria Steinem, a noted feminist and activist, women cannot go gambling because they do not have enough money to do so. Many centuries ago, and maybe even now, women were economically dependent on men. It's a worldwide culture where women stayed at home while the men went out to work to provide for their family. At present, some families still practice this custom. However, there are an increasing number of working moms. Even though these working moms have enough money for gambling, they do not have the time to do so. After working for eight hours, they go home and still have to do some house work. Very few men today share in doing household chores with their wives, so wives still have to clean the house, cook dinner and take care of the kids. There are many machines which help reduce the burden on women, such as washing machines, dishwashers and rice cookers, but they are still not enough to ease the great burdens on women. Thus, even if these women finally have money for gambling, it still is difficult for them to squeeze gambling into their tight schedules.

Men are more fortunate in women in the aspect of gambling. Gambling for men is easy in terms of money and time. Most men learn more about gambling than women because they get to practice more often. Career opportunities are more available to men than to women, thus they usually get the higher-paying jobs. It is also normal for men not to do any household chores, it is universally accepted for the domestic responsibilities to fall on women. Thus, men have more money and more time for gambling.

In the mental aspect, women are not far behind men. The skills required in gambling can be seen in women as well, not only in men. You can see this in Annie Duke who has become one of the best poker players in the world. Annie Duke is just one of the many women who made it big in gambling world. Women really have the same capacity as men to be successful in gambling. Therefore, gambling is not really a question of gender. What makes a good player are the skills and the ability to harness these gambling skills. Women and men therefore should be given equal chances in gambling before you compare who is better.
